Eagles Over Mount Verstovia, Alaska (2009)

Eagles Over Mount Verstovia, Alaska (2009)

from 300.00

How small can a subject appear and still serve as an integral part of an image? Photographed near Sitka, Alaska, this picture contains a hidden element. Look closely, and you will see two small black shapes towards the top right (one against the white of the cloud, the other above left from there). These two small shapes define the outlines of a pair of bald eagles soaring overhead. As such a small part of the photograph, most people miss them entirely. For such viewers, the photograph represents a portrait of a mountain emerging through shifting Alaskan clouds. Yet for those who notice the eagles, a new layer emerges, and the photograph doubles as a portrait of wildlife in their element.
