Greenland Ice Sheet – 412 Years Before Present

Greenland Ice Sheet – 412 Years Before Present

from 300.00

Thin Slice
Depth: 134m
Age: 412 Years Before Present

Having introduced the basic idea behind ice cores, I invite you to join me on a journey of the imagination. Pretend, if you will, that you are standing atop the Greenland ice sheet. A magical glass elevator suddenly appears in front of you, and you step inside. The glass elevator will now descend through two miles of ancient ice, taking you back through over 200,000 years of Earth’s history while magically transporting you between Greenland, West Antarctica, and the South Pole.

First stop? 134 meters below the surface of the Greenland ice sheet and a mere 412 years before present. While this ice was forming in Greenland, Michelangelo was busy painting The Last Judgement on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.
